An Employee Journal
To work at Kindred means to be part of a team dedicated to quality care. Here’s a look at life at Kindred as seen through the eyes of its team members.
The Pacific Region and Health Services Division is proud to name CNA Esmeralda Weidig as its Above and Beyond Award winner for 2004.
Esmeralda was born in Mexico and moved to the U.S. in 1988. Previously an emergency room nurse, she was very shy until she took English classes and worked for one year as a cashier in a fast food restaurant. She also obtained a real estate license, but quickly learned that it was not the field for her. Her first love was helping people and she had learned that CNA classes were being offered at Rainer Vista. She enrolled and began her new career when she became certified in May, 2003.
The nomination for the Rainier Vista’s Above and Beyond Award came from a resident. She stated to the person who wrote the nomination for her:
"This recommendation is for a special young woman. Esmeralda knew I was having a sad time. My family members were out of town; they went to the East Coast for a family reunion and there was no way I could go. Esmeralda bought fabric and made three outstanding dresses for me, adding special flair to the design that captured my personality to a tee. Her motivation for this kind of deed was to see me smile! The secret is out. Esmeralda is not only a great CNA, she is also a skilled seamstress! I really enjoy showing off my new dresses and receiving compliments."
This act of kindness truly represents the spirit and intent of the Above and Beyond program to not only deliver exceptional care, but to also think about our resident’s special needs and take steps to fill them.
